October/November Newsletter 2016

posted Oct 17, 2016, 9:18 PM by Katie Parmenter

Details and News:

We have been so busy in class - building adobe brick, learning about structures and architecture, writing in Greek, working on guided drawings - full of fun stuff as well as art, science and working in the garden!  We had a fabulous day kayaking and feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet at the Felton Quarry to see and learn about all of the work that is happening right in our “back yard”.  It was really eye opening!

You may have seen Jen Sims around our campus on Tuesdays; she is our school counselor.  She is here to offer additional support for our students and families.  Jen visited our younger group last week and will spend some time with our older friends next week - sharing what makes a good classmate/friend, communication, and choices we make.  She will also be available at the next Parent Ed Workshop on Tuesday, November 15th for parents who would like to meet her.  She can be reached at jsims@slvusd.org  There are consent and counseling intake forms that are with paperwork in the Resource Library -

Please remember to send your child to school with a refillable water bottle with their name on it.

Costume Parade and Fall Celebration/Craft Day!

Our Halloween Extravaganza is a parent participation day : )  We welcome parent volunteers to lead crafts.  It is helpful to have 4 or 5 “stations” with a different craft at each table or room.  We can use 2-4 parent helpers at each station.  The crafting will start at around 10:30am.

* Please confirm with us if you would like to lead a craft or be a helper to someone else.  The festivities will end at 1:30pm

Just a Reminder:  All costumes must be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with safety.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for a school with young participants.  Weapons (including "fakes" made from cardboard, plastic, wood, etc.), skateboards and roller blades/skates are not allowed as part of costumes at school.

Here is a rough schedule of how our day will look ~

Go beyond learning superficial facts and really help your child build DEPTH and COMPLEXITY as they learn."  Come early if you would like to meet Jen Sims, our school counselor, plan to arrive at 5:00pm
